If you’re fed up with the constant negative headlines every day, then break the cycle today by following Tell Me The Good News!

Emerald Green Media is the parent company to some of Ireland’s most famous sites, including Ireland Before You Die, Meanwhile in Ireland, and The World Bucket List.

Now, the company is launching its brand-new site, Tell Me The Good News. Tell Me The Good News is breaking the negative news cycle and bringing you positive and uplifting news stories from around the world.

Come down to the launch at The Marcus Ward to be a part of something special, Ireland’s biggest good news site in the making!

Our story ‒ how the website came to be

The idea for Tell Me The Good News came during the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic in Belfast in 2020. Amid Covid lockdowns, it was clear that many people, ourselves included, felt an impending doom, with the majority of the media overcast with non-stop bad news.

Whether it be divisive politics and instability, wars, concerns over society’s physical and mental health, or increasing focus on climate change, it all became a bit too much.

Founder of Tell Me The Good News, Stevie Haughey, says, “I was fed up with the constant negativity. I couldn’t find any good news websites with daily good news, so I made it my mission to create one”.

Indeed, research by Bristol University has found that the number of young people with anxiety doubled from 13% before the pandemic to 24% during the early stages of COVID-19 and the first UK lockdown. By January 2021, that figure had risen to 27%.

For the past two years, the news has felt like doom and gloom.

Now, the cost of living crisis and economic turmoil has been thrown into the mix, with many individuals feeling deflated and worried. Some days, it really does feel like everything is f*cked.

With one in six people experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week*, it has never been more important to nurture our well-being and mindset.

Having successfully grown several influential websites, including Ireland Before You Die, The World Bucket List, and Meanwhile in Ireland, to a following of over one million people, we felt that our team could successfully launch a good news website as we have the skills for it and there is a clear demand for it.

In every corner of the world, there are amazing acts of kindness and groups and individuals doing incredible things to help all aspects of life on earth.

We believe that they deserve to be recognised and celebrated. We want to counteract the monotony of negative news with positive and truly inspiring stories.

In fact, new research has shown consumption of positive news leads to increased acceptance of others, an increased sense of community, and increased motivation to contribute to social change.

Our aim is to show people that there is good in the world and bring this to the forefront of people’s attention. Even if we bring one good news story to somebody new every day and leave them feeling more positive, we’ve done what we came here to do.

In short, we want to help people feel happier. We want to break the negative news cycle!
