10. Four-year-old preemie turns to be a math genius, outsmarts teachers – miracle child can count in multiple different languages
When Jamie Mohr’s mother gave birth at only 28 weeks, she was told he would only have a 10% survival rate.
However, Jamie is now a genius child with hyperlexia, an advanced gift with numbers. At only four years old, Jamie can count in English, German, Mandarin, French, Spanish, and Japanese.

9. She got the last seat on a flight next to a stranger. They’ve been married for 40 years – a chance meeting set the scene for the rest of their lives

This is one of our favourite happy headlines from February. When friends Vickie and Sandra purchased standby tickets for a flight to the UK from the USA, there was no guarantee they’d get a seat on the flight.
Thankfully, they did – right next to Vickie’s future husband, Graham. Chatting on the transatlantic flight in February 1982 turned into a romance, with the couple marrying that December.

The New York restaurant Enoteca Maria invites a grandmother from a different country into their kitchen every evening to cook cuisine from their home country.
Grandmothers from Brazil, Sri Lanka, Argentina, and Japan to name but a few countries, have brought their flavours to the kitchen. What a delicious and wholesome idea.

7. ‘Wobbly cat’ Elvis is king of fostering kittens at Kentucky shelter – the best furry foster father

When animal shelter volunteer Beverly Pack fostered Elvis from the shelter, she quickly realised his development required extra care. Deciding to adopt him, Elvis found his forever home with Beverly, who continued fostering cats from the shelter.
Elvis has proven to be a dedicated foster dad to every cat who comes through his home, insisting on cuddling them and cleaning their ears. This is one of the best happy headlines from February.

6. Ten years after he finished a book, his daughter’s TikTok made it a bestseller – never underestimate the power of social media

Marguerite Richards’s father, Lloyd Devereux Richards, spent 14 years writing his novel, which was published in 2012. However, it received minimal success.
Marguerite recently asked her father if she could make a TikTok about his work. The video went viral, bringing Stone Maidens from 1,452 to number one in the Amazon charts.

Sergio Peralta was self-conscious when he started his new school, worried his new classmates would mock him for his deformed right hand. However, the engineering students reacted in a way he could never have imagined; by working with him to design a prosthetic hand.

3. Irish man, 82, wins World Swimming Man of the Year Award – the OAP was awarded for swimming around Ireland
82-year-old Paddy Conaghan was awarded the Man of the Year Award from the World Open Water Swimming Association. He was presented with the award for his impressive swim around the island of Ireland through which he raised €104,400 for charity.
