Sometimes, things in your life have just run their course, whether it’s something in your personal life, a relationship, or at work.

Your body and the universe will often give you tell-tale signs when it’s time to move on. These can come as subtle hints or an ‘Ah-ha’ moment you didn’t know you were waiting for.

So, let’s take a look at ten signs it’s time to move on, whether it’s from a professional position that you’ve peaked in, a relationship that no longer serves you, or maybe a friendship that has naturally run its course.

    10. You’re unhappy – the biggest, clearest sign

One of the easiest and most obvious signs it’s time to move on is if you’re unhappy. This could apply to a romantic relationship, a friendship, or a job.

Life is all about fulfilment, and if something isn’t fulfilling you or leading you to be happy anymore, then it’s definitely time to move on.

    9. You’re unsettled – always feeling antsy

If you’re constantly thinking about ‘What ifs’, that might just mean it’s time to move on. Sometimes things just don’t fit right, leaving you feeling unsettled or unfulfilled in some way. If that’s the case, don’t be afraid to just let go and move on.

    8. You don’t have any time for your personal life – take a step back

Not having time for your personal life means you should take a step back.

This point could apply to your work life or a romantic relationship. If you’re constantly working and don’t have time for anything else, or if you’re always with your partner when you actually want to be doing things in your personal life, it might mean that it’s time to make a change.

When something becomes so overwhelming in life that you don’t have time for yourself or things that are important to you, it can become restraining and unhealthy.

    7. You’ve done all that you can – sometimes things just run their course

If your relationship has been strained for a while, whether it’s a friendship or something more, it can be hard to even think about moving on. However, it might be the healthiest option.

The same can be said for work but in a different sense. If you have peaked in your field and there is no more room for you to progress, it could be time to search for a new job with more prospects.

    6. Feeling invalidated – stop trying to prove yourself

If a relationship or a work environment is leaving you feeling invalidated, then it’s not serving you the way that it should.

Life is far too short to waste on constantly trying to prove yourself, so pick up your things, re-evaluate, and move on.

    5. You’re not yourself – something has changed

If you find that something in you has shifted, or if the people closest to you are seeing an unhealthy change in you, like you’re losing your sparkle, it might be time to start thinking about making some changes to rediscover who you are.

    4. Your gut is telling you to – trust your instincts

Sometimes, the best thing to do is just trust your gut; if you can no longer envision longevity in your situation, it’s ok to throw in the towel.

A relationship, a work environment, or whatever it may be doesn’t have to become toxic before you decide to leave.

    3. An opportunity has presented itself – one of the signs it’s time to move on

If an idea, an opportunity, or a prospect has ignited a fire in you that has been lacking recently, it could be a sign to move on and pursue bigger and better things!

    2. Your heart’s not in it anymore – the spark has fizzled

You could have been passionate about something your whole life, like painting, dancing, or kickboxing, for example, but the minute your heart isn’t in it anymore, the fun, the thrill, and the fulfilment evaporates.

You’ll know the difference between being worn out and not wanting to do it anymore, so if your heart’s no longer in it, it might be one of the signs it’s time to move on.

    1. You’ve wanted to for a long time – it’s time to move on

If you've waited a long time this, it's time to move on.

One of the biggest reasons to move on is if it’s something you’ve wanted to do for ages. Maybe you’ve even been putting it off for days, months, or years. If it’s been a long time coming, then just move on.

To clarify, we aren’t trained experts or relationship coaches, so we aren’t advising anyone to drop everything and leave at the first sign of trouble.

However, it’s always important to be safe in the knowledge that you are living life to its full potential, happy, satisfied, and being the best version of who you are.
